Coastal Flood Statement
Issued by the National Weather Service at 3:54 am CST on November 7, 2009
.An area of low pressure near the Bay of Campeche is expected to
move north into the western Gulf of Mexico on Sunday. This feature
combined with high pressure over the eastern United States will lead
to strong easterly winds over most of the northern Gulf and
increased tide levels across the Upper Texas coast. Tides are
forecast to run 0.5 to 1 foot above normal through Saturday night.
Tide levels will increase to 2 feet above normal Sunday night.
The highest tide levels are expected to occur during high tide
Sunday night. Tide levels between 3.5 and 4.5 feet will be possible.
The main impacts are expected to occur along the Bolivar Peninsula
and the west end of Galveston Island. Water may at times overspread
roadways including Highway 87 on the Bolivar Peninsula and FM 3005
on the west end of Galveston Island leading to hazardous travel
conditions.
Elsewhere along the Upper Texas coast and Galveston Bay... minimal
if any impact is expected at this time.
Tide levels are expected to quickly subside during the day Monday as
the winds shift to a northerly direction.
